Seattle Bell Harbor Wedding

This wedding will always have a special place in my heart, not just because it was beautiful or because the couple was wonderful (though both are true), but because of what was happening in my life at the time. Lindsey and Mitch’s celebration happened right as my husband was starting his stem cell transplant. We were living in the hospital for an entire month, and I was juggling wedding days, floral installs, and hospital visits all at once. It was survival mode, plain and simple.

What made it possible was the team around me. This vendor team was phenomenal. They were the kind of people who go above and beyond without being asked, and I knew Lindsey and Mitch were in great hands. I was there for the bulk of the day, through setup, ceremony, and dinner, and then my amazing assistant carried the event through the rest of the night so I could get back to the hospital. Even in the middle of one of the hardest seasons of my life, I was reminded why I love this work. There’s still joy, still love, still celebration.

I also really loved the year I spent planning with Lindsey and Mitch. They’re such a sweet couple, and they actually found me because I coordinated one of her bridesmaids wedding. I think that’s one of the best parts of this job, when it stays in the friend or family circle. Over the years, I get to celebrate more and more of life’s big moments with the same people.

The girls got ready at an Airbnb downtown. The morning was spent in hair and make up, mimosa’s, and just hanging out with girlfriends!

We had originally planned to hold the ceremony on the rooftop, but May in Seattle is always a bit of a gamble and the weather wasn’t on our side. We ended up moving the ceremony indoors, and the venue handled the flip seamlessly.

After working at so many venues over the years, I’ve realized that the ones that stand out the most are the ones with teams who truly love what they do. Hospitality is hard work. The hours are long, the pressure is high, and the job is often thankless. This staff was so clearly passionate about their work. Many of them have been there for years, and it shows. They go out of their way to say yes, which is exactly what you want on a wedding day.

We still got to use the rooftop for Lindsey and Mitch’s first look. The rain held off just long enough for some gorgeous photos under that classic Seattle overcast sky.

Inside, the ceremony backdrop featured beautiful slatted wood walls, and as the night went on, the venue’s statement light fixtures and uplighting made everything glow.

The bride dusted off her blazer and made a powerpoint presentation to persuade the groom to get the chiavari chairs. She made a solid case!

This was the year of the hydrangea, and this wedding was the kickoff. Lindsey loves them, so they were woven throughout the floral design. Her aunt created all the centerpieces and owned the vases, which she generously gifted to me afterward. I handled all the bouquets, ceremony florals, and personal flowers. Because it was a larger wedding with about 20 tables and a big wedding party, we repurposed bouquets as centerpieces on a few tables, one of my favorite ways to keep things sustainable and meaningful.

There were thoughtful DIY touches everywhere. Lindsey’s friend Lauren, a former bride of mine, made all the acrylic signage and menus with her Cricut.

The cake table had a lace overlay that had been used in other family weddings. Every little detail felt personal and intentional.

And the desserts? Crumbl cookies. I am now fully convinced that cookies are the best dessert choice. Guests absolutely love them. They’re easy to grab, perfect for dancing with, and there’s never a single one left.

This group was ready to celebrate. Mitch is from Texas, so of course there was a cowboy hat moment, and he even hopped behind the DJ booth for a quick set with Orion’s blessing. The energy on the dance floor was so much fun. This friend group knows how to throw a party.
